Adaptive spatial planning: An ACT-R model
نویسندگان
چکیده
The paper presents an experiment on spatial planning in 2D maze-like environments in which participants had to build and execute on-line a plan to reach a target. The experiment manipulated three factors: type of instructions (two levels), number of obstacles in the mazes (four levels), and length of the minimum path to the target (three levels). The instructions were conceived to vary the importance of the two main goals of the decision behavior: i.e., accuracy maximization and effort minimization, respectively. The results support the hypothesis of the adoption by participants of two different solution strategies as an effective response to the instructions. The strategies differ in the amount of time devoted to execution vs. reasoning, and in the way these processes are interleaved. We discuss the implications of the results for the adaptive view of cognition, and propose an ACT-R model to simulate the participants’ strategic behavior. The model explains the differences in the results by assuming that participants, aiming at maximizing accuracy vs. minimizing effort, differ in the likelihood and in the location of the intermediate goals they set in their solution paths. In the conclusions, we analyze the contribution of ACT-R simulation as a tool for studying the adaptive spatial planning.

متن کاملModelling Spatial Relations’ Influence on Planning
Recent studies on the planning problem Rush-Hour showed that certain spatial properties among the game’s elements affect human planning and bias it towards a suboptimal solution. A cognitive model that solves Rush-Hour problems has been implemented with the goal of better understanding this effect. The ACT-R framework has been chosen as the foundation for this experiment. The model has been eva...
متن کاملAn economic-statistical model for production and maintenance planning under adaptive non-central chi-square control chart
Most of the inventory control models assume that quality defect never happens, which means production process is perfect. However, in real manufacturing processes, the production process starts its operation in the in-control state; but after a period of time, shifts to the out-of-control state because of occurrence of some disturbances. In this paper, in order to approach the model to real man...

Aggregate production planning (APP) determines the optimal production plan for the medium term planning horizon. The purpose of the APP is effective utilization of existing capacities through facing the fluctuations in demand. Recently, fuzzy approaches have been applied for APP focusing on vague nature of cost parameters. Considering the importance of coping with customer demand in different p...
